Skin tags can be removed at Face & Eye under local anaesthesia. This includes eyelid, facial and body skin tags.
Most skin tags have been present for a long time and are entirely benign. As they are considered a cosmetic blemish only, GPs are no longer able to offer their removal on the NHS.
An upper lid lump – a papilloma
Any skin lesion which has a suspicious appearance e.g. with ulceration, changing pigmentation, bleeding, should be biopsied (the tissue removed is sent for an examination by a pathologist to establish the diagnosis). This is not required for a simple benign skin tag. If we consider your skin tag to be at all suspicious, however, you will be advised to see your GP if you do not want to proceed with this minor surgery on a private basis.
John Cooper, our oculoplastic nurse specialist who also works at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital where he undertakes some minor surgical procedures on his own weekly operating list, can also offer this service at a lower cost. Please contact the clinic for information about the cost. See our patient Google reviews about John.
