CORNEAL SURGERY

COLLAGEN CROSS LINKING

This is a technique which uses an intense ultraviolet light (UVA) source and a photosensitising chemical (Riboflavin) to create increased linkages (cross-linking) between the cornea’s collagen fibres. This technique has been shown to be extremely successful in arresting the progression of (i.e. stabilising) the condition and occasionally even producing small improvements.

CORNEAL GRAFT SURGERY

Corneal graft surgery (or corneal transplantation) refers to procedures in which abnormal corneal tissue is removed from a patient’s eye and replaced by healthy donor cornea.

RECURRENT CORNEAL EROSION SYNDROME

Recurrent Corneal Erosion Syndrome refers to repeated episodes of superficial spontaneous corneal abrasions leading to severe eye pain, watering and photophobia (an aversion to lights).

PTERYGIUM SURGERY

A pterygium is a triangular shaped fold of conjunctiva (the thin usually clear membrane over the white of the eye) which has grown, together with fibrous tissue and blood vessels into the adjacent cornea.
